The woods and lakes of this little corner of rural France are a glorious setting for the Auberge de l'Etang Bleu hotel, run by husband and wife team Pierre and Anne Colas. Created by Pierre's father, the hotel and lakes started life as a leisure and holiday park; a seaside resort without the sea. Times change, and now, this 40 acre space in the forest is the peaceful setting for this eleven-room hotel.

The hotel has received plenty of plaudits from all sorts of quarters. We think the accolades are well-deserved as this is simple but lovely and well-run accomodation in an excellent location in the much wider setting of Dordogne. All the guest rooms were renovated in 2007. Six of the rooms have a balcony and they all have en-suite bathrooms with bath or shower, telephone, satellite television with major European channels, and internet connection.

Bicycles are available to hire and 'no kill' fishing can be enjoyed alongside the lakes (equipment is not supplied). There are plenty of carp, perch, pike and roach awaiting the skilful angler.

Restaurant:

Auberge de l'Etang Bleu is a member of the Euro-Toques chefs' organisation, ensuring the use of fresh produce and traditional culinary methods. The food is classic Périgord fare (Périgord is the old French province which pretty much corresponds to present-day Dordogne) - duck, salmon and veal dishes are amongst those found on the menu.
The restaurant is open every evening and Sunday lunchtimes.

What We Say:

What a Dordogne destination! The Colas family have been in the business long enough to know how to do things just right. Eating out on the shady terrace amongst the well-cared-for plants is a particular pleasure.

Deposit:

A credit card number and a deposit equal to the first night is required to guarantee a reservation. The deposit will be charged to the credit card either at the time of booking or closer to the time of arrival.

Cancellations:

In the event of cancellation in low season the day before or on the day of arrival, the price of the room or the deposit paid will be charged to the client. In high season, the deposit for any cancelled reservation within a period of less than a week will not be reimbursed.
