Antiques and old furniture abound in the 'maison' (or house), and Martine is a collector of old costumes which she has placed on mannequins throughout it. As one of the last remaining large town houses in Cotignac, several high-profile families once stayed here, and there is an ancestors' gallery containing various portraits.
Many guests like to wander the narrow streets, and conversely explore the enormous open spaces of the nearby Gorges du Verdon or stroll along the banks of the Cassole river. At the end of a day on one's feet, the fresh and comfortable bed linens are most welcome. Because of the nature of this historic town house, the bedrooms are spacious too, particularly 'Jouy' at a whole 40m2.
Evidently, being a town house there is no swimming pool or garden, but a pool can be found merely a few miles away, and the Var region is just one vast natural garden.
Restaurant:
Tasty table d'hôte dinners are served (please order in advance), and the hosts are knowledgeable about wine, so you'll be sure to be able to get excellent advice on this.A Word From the Owner:
"La Maison Gonzagues is delighted to welcome you into its grand old town house (hôtel particulier) which dates back to the 18th century. Located in the heart of Cotignac, a superb village from the higher regions of the Var, it is a true family home dating back to 1747. Here you will enjoy being cast back into yesterday's world, looked over by the numerous portraits which figure in the ancestors' gallery."Hotel Amenities:

What We Say:
The rooms are a delight, and it is within Stéphane and Martine's nature to “go the extra mile” for their guests. Note the house is on four floors, so you may get some exercise ascending to your room each time. From the Guestbook:
"The owners are absolutely lovely people and can't do enough for you. We were sorry to leave. The little gem of a hotel is situation right in the heart of the town, walking distance to several restaurants."
"Hosts Stéphane and Martine Le Flammanc are the nicest people imaginable, plus he's a wine professional and an excellent cook. Try to have dinner there at least once during your stay- ask for table d'hôte- and prepare to be fed very well and served excellent wines before climbing the stairs to a spacious and beautifully furnished room."
