Domaine de la Grange Neuve is a delightful Provencal 'mas' (a mas is a country home in the typical style of Provence). Run by Ralph (who is also the chef) and his brother Thomas, the hotel has been entirely renovated yet retains a look of charming rusticity. Wherever additions or repairs were made, they were done with the local stone, totally in keeping with the original.

Not only is the building pretty, but the setting is too- it lies between a conservation area and the Luberon Nature Reserve, in the Vaucluse mountains, and a mile or so away from the village of La Roque-sur-Pernes.

The sunsets over Mont Ventoux are spectacular, and Mont Ventoux is one of the prime spots in France for hiking, rock-climbing and cycling. The small team of staff are keen to offer advice on good hikes. In the library there are National Geographic Institute maps to assist guests.. There is also a living room with a fireplace to nestle by in cooler seasons.

Back outside in the grounds, a 20-metre swimming pool is available for guests' use in the verdant garden, where there are good views of the Dentelles de Montmirail mountain range. Nearby, the domaine has its little family orchard, from which the ingredients are taken to make home-made organic jams that, depending on the season, are offered at breakfast. Also in the garden, guests can play the traditional ballgame of pétanque, or table-tennis. The nearby garigue offers an unobstructed view of Mont Ventoux and the plain of the old Comtat de Venaissin region around Avignon.

A medley of rooms provides flexibility, with room options for 2, 3 and 4 people on the ground floor, as well as a suite which has 2 rooms catering for up to 6 in total. Each of these has an en-suite bathroom with a shower (one with a bath can be requested), and every bedroom has an individual decoration in typically warm Provencal colours.

Restaurant:

Traditional Lyonnaise and Provencal fare is served. When the weather is suitable, dinner can be served on one of two terraces shaded by a hundred-year old lime tree.

Cancellations:

Cancellations should be received in writing (fax or e-mail) at least 31 days before scheduled arrival, in which case there is no charge.
Cancellations from 21 to 31 days before arrival will be charged for the first night.
Cancellations from 16 to 21 days before will be charged 25% of the total, or the first night.
Cancellations with less than 16 days notice and no-shows will be charged the full amount.
