Villa St. Maxime without a doubt possesses one of the finest hotel views on the Riviera: the Cap d'Antibes, the Mediterranean and parts of the Alps can be seen, and the six rooms and suites all offer a unique perspective on this. Such a pearl of a location, a mere half kilometre from the charming fortified hilltop town of St. Paul de Vence, is important to many visitors, but even more significant for us is the artistry of the villa's own design. Hotel on the Riviera

Both in terms of paintings and objets d'art, this ultra-contemporary building reveals so much more than initially meets the eye. The retractable glass-enclosed atrium, pillared and vaulted halls, and lustrous marble floors all portray a powerful sense of light and space.

Owners Ann and John have not scrimped on guest rooms either, with an equally fresh and airy approach. Consider the St. Maxime suite, whose contemporary bathroom features a circular bath pool and nine-directional shower. All rooms and suites have televisions and a DVD player, with films provided, plus a fridge, air conditioning and a safe, and there is free wi-fi connection in the public areas and most guest rooms.

Although Villa St. Maxime does not have its own restaurant, the town is of course just along the road, with the hotel situated beneath the ancient ramparts of St Paul, so a restaurant is never far away. Nevertheless, all room rates include champagne breakfasts and evening aperitifs, plus the chance to indulge in the offerings of the late evening cart- chocolates, a range of liqueurs and water. Such decadent living lends itself well to reposing by the swimming pool, in the stylish gardens or out on the large terrace.

With a bit of travel, guests have access to so much terrain around them- the Riviera, Provence, the Alps, Monaco and even Northern Italy. As for the town, St. Paul de Vence punches well above its weight; it is artistically and culturally interesting, with the Marguerite and Maeght Foundation (with its modern and contemporary art), St. Paul's Museum of Art and the Local History Museum, along with some good shops and restaurants.

Restaurant:

As mentioned, evening meals are not available, but the hotel can make restaurant recommendations, and champagne breakfasts are served.

What We Say:

The villa is a real treat for lovers of the best of modern design. Meanwhile the location is right there amongst all those most evocative names of the French Riviera: St Tropez, Cannes, Antibes, Nice, Monaco, La Grande Corniche.

From the Guestbook:

"We were fortunate to have their top-class, split-level suite, an absolute dream of a room, with HUGE circular bath and nine-jet walk in shower, cosy sitting room with glass sliding doors opening on to the terrace, from where you had magnificent views of the sea towards Antibes and the panoramic view of the old town of St. Paul de Vence. Above all of this was the hospitality of Ann and John, the owners, who treated us like old friends and welcomed us into their home. A plentiful breakfast including champagne is all included in the cost, but it was mainly their warmth which impressed us. Thank you Ann and John for making our trip so, so special- we will be back, and we will spread the word about this oasis of tranquillity!"

"The structure of the Villa is also breathtaking. When you walk into the entrance, you are greeted with polished white marble floors, stylish furnishings and decorative art pieces spaciously placed throughout the Villa. While the Villa itself is quite large, it has a very nice “homey” feel. Each room in the Villa also has its own bathroom, which was also very nice."
