and out here in this lovely part of Languedoc, everything is set to have a unwinding break. Anne Karin and Oliver's 'home from home', where they live with their two children and three cats, is a worthy family-friendly choice.
In the hamlet of Gattigues, near Uzès, the 12th century rustic house has been both simply and warmly decorated over its five rooms and maisonette, apartment and cottage options. Between those cosy stone walls, the terracotta floors and beamed ceilings define the guest rooms, with each one named after the colour of its decor. The apartment and maisonette options provide more personal space, with sitting areas and basic kitchen facilities, while a self-catering cottage sleeps two to three and features an open-plan kitchen/ living area and a private garden and terrace.
The first-floor courtyard frames a swimming pool, perfect for a dip or a proper swim, whilst the house can arrange massages on request. Bicycles can also be borrowed to explore the local scenery. In the sitting room, lovely cushioned sofas provide plenty of scope for lazing around.
The hotel's name means 'The Blue-Eyed Sardines'!

A true little gem of a place hidden away in wonderful French countryside. Anna-Karin, Olivier and their great kids make it feel like you're in a home away from home. The breakfast is beyond great and Uzes is a must-visit while you're there." Fanny, UK
"Excellent in all regards. Go with the host's local recommendations and you can't go wrong. Welcoming, friendly, like a home away from home- only it's an amazing home, far better than your own. Also, seeing pictures of their property at purchase and how they've transformed it is an inspiration." Lucy
